FutureA+
A passer of the future in Maye, and a A-, for the Bears. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They banked enough surplus on Braswell to cover a lot of smaller sins. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. If Frazier pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
In the end it comes back to Drake Maye, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Drake Maye
Drake Maye at pick 6 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In pick No. 9 they get a weapon on the perimeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick34
Rnd2
Tyler Nubin
They took Tyler Nubin at par in the 34th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick47
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier in Round 2, Pick 15 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
Pick75
Rnd3
Chris Braswell
Somehow Chris Braswell was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick111
Rnd4
Zak Zinter
Zak Zinter at the 111th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick134
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
No edge and no loss on Jacob Cowing in slot 134; it is a wash and a sensible one. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick143
Rnd5
Josh Newton
They barely believed it either: Josh Newton still on the board at No. 143. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
