The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Caedan Wallace, the No. 212 name on the board, sitting there at slot 253 like a gift left on the doorstep.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
If Jones pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
If Nate Wiggins and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Nate Wiggins at par in Round 1, Pick 22, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Xavier Worthy in slot 50, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Payton Wilson in No. 53 is fair value, right on his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value with a capital V on Will Shipley in pick 120, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Theo Johnson in pick No. 123 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A straight-up fair deal on Tykee Smith at the Round 5 slot, value and slot in agreement. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Layden Robinson in the 162nd pick, and the value did not follow. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They did well to land Marist Liufau in the 171st overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Value said wait; Trente Jones in the 172nd pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A tidy little value on Jordan Jefferson in No. 188, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Jha'Quan Jackson in the 210th overall pick, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Sheridan Jones at pick No. 225 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Caedan Wallace all the way to the Round 7 slot, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
