jj3325 DRAFTING FOR THEPackers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Packers
Overall
B-
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
More right than wrong for the Packers, and a B- to prove it. The Packers went off the board in a big way for Dwight McGlothern, 38 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, wide receiver and other spots. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In slot 25 they get a sticky cover corner at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 41 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick57
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick88
Rnd3
Junior Colson
Of all the spots to shop, they chose linebacker. Junior Colson in No. 88 leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots for later.
Pick91
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving at the 91st pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick125
Rnd4
Javon Foster
They took Javon Foster at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick135
Rnd4
Keith Randolph Jr.
A wild overpay on Keith Randolph Jr. in the 135th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick203
Rnd6
Gabe Hall
No drama and no debate, Gabe Hall went about where he belonged in pick No. 203. The roster fit checks out.
Pick217
Rnd6
Demani Richardson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Demani Richardson this early at the 217th overall pick. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick219
Rnd6
Dwight McGlothern
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Dwight McGlothern. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick246
Rnd7
Evan Williams
Evan Williams in pick 246 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
