FutureA+
A passer of the future in Maye, and a C, for the Bears. The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Bears spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. It lands right in the middle: a C, no more, no less.
They banked enough surplus on Flournoy to cover a lot of smaller sins. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Jackson reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
So much rides on Drake Maye that the real verdict is a season or two away.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In the Round 1 slot they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value.
Pick33
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
No drama and no debate, Jackson Powers-Johnson went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 1. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick37
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 37th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick39
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
Xavier Legette at the 39th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick53
Rnd2
Edgerrin Cooper
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in pick No. 53. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick54
Rnd2
Ruke Orhorhoro
A conviction pick on Ruke Orhorhoro at No. 54 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick57
Rnd2
Payton Wilson
Payton Wilson at pick 57 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at slot 75 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick240
Rnd7
Ryan Flournoy
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Ryan Flournoy in the 240th pick, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
