Boards are made to be trusted, and the Cardinals shredded theirs for Al Blades Jr.. He came off 43 spots early, and the room will hear about it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Solomon pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback, tight end and other spots. The Jones pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 15 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Graham Barton at pick No. 35 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kalen King at the 64th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Payton Wilson at Round 3, Pick 2 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ja'Lynn Polk at slot 71 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Gabriel Murphy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A surprising call. With quarterback, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent slot 104 on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
Braelon Allen at the 140th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
Edefuan Ulofoshio slipping to No. 169 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Kimani Vidal at the 188th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A need, and now a little less of one.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Daequan Hardy at pick 225. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Somehow Myles Jones was still sitting there in pick No. 227, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Trey Wedig at Round 7, Pick 19 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Al Blades Jr.. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
