No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Raiders.

Some picks age like wine; Ryan Watts at the Round 7 slot will need to, sitting 32 spots clear of his grade. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McCaffrey. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
JC Latham in the Round 1 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 29
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and J.J. McCarthy at slot 44 is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R3.15 · Pick 79 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Value said wait; Christian Mahogany in No. 79 says they were not listening. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 135
This one needs a full-page explanation: Roger Rosengarten in the 112th pick, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.1 · Pick 176 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 149
Luke McCaffrey at pick 176 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.29 · Pick 204 · Steele Chambers · LB · rank 199
They did well to land Steele Chambers in the 204th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.33 · Pick 208 · Daijahn Anthony · CB · rank 237
Daijahn Anthony at Round 6, Pick 33 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 226
Frank Gore Jr. at No. 211 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Garret Greenfield · OT · rank 216
Nothing to complain about; Garret Greenfield went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Ryan Watts · CB · rank 261
A wild overpay on Ryan Watts in pick 229, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
