The trade table was where it all came apart. The Raiders shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.
Jayden Daniels is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Ugwoegbu pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jayden Daniels at par in No. 7, which is nothing to complain about. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Patrick Paul in the 52nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Mike Sainristil at the Round 3 slot squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Braden Fiske at pick No. 84, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Sataoa Laumea in Round 4, Pick 24, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach on Braelon Allen in slot 147; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Michael Barrett at the 177th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They let Javon Baker come to them and pounced at pick 190. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach for David Ugwoegbu in pick No. 221; a little patience would have been rewarded. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
Blake Watson in No. 231 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
