When a board-topper like Anthony Gould slides to Round 7, Pick 9, you do not overthink it, and the Raiders did not. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front. Jake Browning gives the group a proven body among the projects.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Brock Bowers at pick 20 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Michael Penix Jr. still on the board at the 44th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., who had no business lasting to slot 79. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
DJ James in pick No. 84 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dominick Puni at No. 112 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They robbed the room for Bucky Irving here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Sataoa Laumea all the way to the 194th overall pick, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Tahj Washington in the Round 6 slot, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They read the board right and Steele Chambers was the payoff at the 214th overall pick. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
They paid sticker price for Frank Gore Jr. in the 223rd pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Anthony Gould at Round 7, Pick 9 for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jha'Quan Jackson at slot 237 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Kendall Milton in pick 238 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
