FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Steelers a B-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Steelers did exactly that with Fabien Lovett in slot 123. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The Steelers indulged a want in Limmer while a need in quarterback, safety and other spots stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
On value alone, Burke makes the weekend a net positive.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
Patrick Paul
A tidy bit of business in slot 55, where Patrick Paul graded well above the range. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick68
Rnd3
Denzel Burke
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Denzel Burke in pick No. 68. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick87
Rnd3
Malik Washington
A clean, defensible pick in No. 87 with a little surplus value in Malik Washington. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick94
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
A reach on Payton Wilson in pick 94; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick113
Rnd4
Beaux Limmer
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Beaux Limmer adds an offensive lineman while quarterback, safety and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick123
Rnd4
Fabien Lovett
They reached a country mile for Fabien Lovett at Round 4, Pick 23, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick201
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in the Round 6 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick244
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
Hayden Hatten at Round 7, Pick 24 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A need, and now a little less of one.
