When a board-topper like Sataoa Laumea slides to slot 232, you do not overthink it, and the Vikings did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Whatever Drake Maye becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. They are betting McCaffrey proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Job largely done: quarterback settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Mike Sainristil in No. 40 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Michael Hall Jr. in the 67th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A wide receiver of that caliber at Round 3, Pick 4 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Luke McCaffrey, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Dallin Holker is a better player than the 167th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Kalen King at No. 177 that the board grades a round light. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
You do not let a running back like Cody Schrader reach the Round 7 slot and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Steal is underselling it; Sataoa Laumea at pick No. 232 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
