Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall C+
ValueD NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
A weekend that raised as many questions as it answered. The 49ers get a C+.

It is the swing that defines the weekend: Easton Dean in the 213th pick, a good 294 spots before the room expected him.

For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. Landing Fautanu that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.

Pick Analysis
Pick27 Rnd1 Josh Newton
In the 27th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner, though they paid up to get him.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kris Jenkins
They did well to land Kris Jenkins in pick 59, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick90 Rnd3 Frank Gore Jr.
Frank Gore Jr. in slot 90 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98 Rnd3 Zach Frazier
They talked themselves into Zach Frazier at No. 98, and the board did not agree. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick127 Rnd4 Troy Fautanu
They let Troy Fautanu come to them and pounced at Round 4, Pick 27. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick177 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Nothing to complain about; Jaylin Simpson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick205 Rnd6 Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty at the Round 6 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick213 Rnd6 Easton Dean
Easton Dean at slot 213 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick215 Rnd6 DeMonte Capehart
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in No. 215, miles early. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick248 Rnd7 Alton McCaskill
They reached into another round for Alton McCaskill, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
