Draft Grade — Bears
Overall F
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureD
The Prieskorn reach set the tone, and the Bears never recovered: F.

The Bears clearly saw something nobody else did in Caden Prieskorn, taking him 56 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. With running back unsolved, spending premium capital on tight end is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.

They banked enough surplus on Castro to cover a lot of smaller sins. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.

There is no spinning it; the board won this weekend going away.

Pick Analysis
Pick17 Rnd1 Jack Sawyer
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick22 Rnd1 Tyler Booker
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get an anchor for the offensive line, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick33 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
No edge and no loss on Kenneth Grant in the 33rd overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick34 Rnd2 Harold Perkins Jr.
Harold Perkins Jr. in pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick41 Rnd2 Mitchell Evans
They jumped the gun on Mitchell Evans, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick49 Rnd2 Tory Horton
A premium they did not need to pay, Tory Horton a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick53 Rnd2 Ashton Gillotte
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ashton Gillotte in the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick57 Rnd2 Shilo Sanders
Value said wait; Shilo Sanders in pick No. 57 says they were not listening. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick73 Rnd3 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at the 73rd overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick85 Rnd3 Jordan Hancock
Jordan Hancock at pick 85 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick89 Rnd3 Conner Weigman
Fair-plus on Conner Weigman, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick94 Rnd3 Caden Prieskorn
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Caden Prieskorn at tight end with running back open.
Pick98 Rnd4 Sebastian Castro
A curious use of slot 98. Running back needed the pick; a safety in Sebastian Castro did not.
Pick105 Rnd4 Nazir Stackhouse
Nazir Stackhouse is a better player than No. 105 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick132 Rnd5 J.J. Weaver
J.J. Weaver at the Round 5 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick137 Rnd5 T.J. Sanders
They reached a country mile for T.J. Sanders at slot 137, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick162 Rnd6 Steve Linton
The board had cheaper options than Steve Linton at Round 6, Pick 2, and it noticed. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173 Rnd6 Khordae Sydnor
Khordae Sydnor in pick 173 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick183 Rnd6 Moose Muhammad III
They took Moose Muhammad III at par in pick No. 183, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick189 Rnd6 Keaten Wade
Keaten Wade at the 189th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick205 Rnd7 Carson Hinzman
Carson Hinzman at No. 205 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick222 Rnd7 Tyler Batty
Tyler Batty in the 222nd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
