Draft Grade — Bears

FutureB-
The Bears checked most of the boxes and earned a B-. Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bears spent Round 6, Pick 7 on Jase McClellan, a name the board had a full 57 spots lower. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
The linebacker hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They banked enough surplus on Murphy II to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 1st overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick5
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick68
Rnd3
Byron Murphy II
Byron Murphy II at slot 68 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
By-the-book stuff, Jason Marshall Jr. at pick 104 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick132
Rnd4
Donovan Jackson
Nothing to complain about; Donovan Jackson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick141
Rnd5
Jamari Thrash
Fair-plus on Jamari Thrash, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick182
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at the 182nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick225
Rnd7
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson in the 225th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
