Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B
ValueC+ NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Bears bet the future on Maye. The board says B.

After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. The bottom line is a respectable B.

They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Rice to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick9 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In slot 9 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick18 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in the 18th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick49 Rnd2 Ruke Orhorhoro
Ruke Orhorhoro in the Round 2 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick75 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Value said wait; Brenden Rice in the 75th pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick122 Rnd4 Theo Johnson
No edge and no loss on Theo Johnson in pick 122; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick131 Rnd4 Ainias Smith
Ainias Smith at No. 131 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The roster fit checks out.
Pick176 Rnd6 Tanor Bortolini
A reach for Tanor Bortolini in Round 6, Pick 1; a little patience would have been rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
