Everything else got attention, and edge rusher got none. That is a strange way for the Raiders to leave a draft.
They banked enough surplus on Magee to cover a lot of smaller sins. The cost of the Milton III reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
J.J. McCarthy in slot 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Caelen Carson, who had no business lasting to Round 3, Pick 13. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A clean, defensible pick in the 113th overall pick with a little surplus value in Matt Goncalves. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A conviction pick on Joe Milton III at pick 147 that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Javon Baker at the Round 6 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They robbed the room for Jordan Magee here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Trevor Keegan in pick 231 is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
