SSLally DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall

TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The 49ers treated their own grade as gospel and everyone else's as noise, spending pick No. 249 on Aaron Lewis a full 76 spots early. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
The Paul steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In No. 31 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick63
Rnd2
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Patrick Paul
Steal is underselling it; Patrick Paul at pick No. 94 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick98
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
Khyree Jackson at slot 98 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick132
Rnd4
Brandon Coleman
Brandon Coleman at the 132nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick176
Rnd6
Nathan Thomas
A straight-up fair deal on Nathan Thomas at pick 176, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick209
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 34 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick214
Rnd6
Matthew Jones
They talked themselves into Matthew Jones at slot 214, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick215
Rnd6
Jeremy Flax
A real head-scratcher, Jeremy Flax in the 215th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick249
Rnd7
Aaron Lewis
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Aaron Lewis. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
