The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Raiders reached some 125 spots for Tyler Harrell, and value like that does not grow back. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. On value alone, Hart makes the weekend a net positive.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, edge rusher very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jayden Daniels. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on T'Vondre Sweat at pick 45 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Christian Mahogany in pick No. 77; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cam Hart at Round 5, Pick 14. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in slot 152, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Layden Robinson is a better player than No. 176 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Christian Jones at pick No. 190 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Harrell at No. 234 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
