FutureB-
Best value of the weekend goes to the 49ers for Hardy: B-. Somebody in slot 251 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Daequan Hardy, the No. 195 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
They are betting Hanson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They will answer for taking cornerback early while running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots went begging.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Cooper DeJean
In pick No. 31 they get an island corner at a price that makes it sweeter.
Pick63
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
A premium they did not need to pay, Xavier Legette a notch or two before his time. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick110
Rnd4
Christian Mahogany
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Christian Mahogany at the 110th overall pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott in the 112th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick123
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at Round 4, Pick 23, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick130
Rnd4
Justin Eboigbe
They reached into another round for Justin Eboigbe, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick132
Rnd4
Jarrian Jones
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Jarrian Jones adds a cornerback and leaves running back, interior defensive lineman and other spots untouched.
Pick175
Rnd5
Nathaniel Watson
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Nathaniel Watson. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick211
Rnd6
Andrew Raym
A big swing on Andrew Raym at slot 211, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick215
Rnd6
Tyler Owens
A reach on Tyler Owens in Round 6, Pick 40; the board had better options right there. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick232
Rnd7
C.J. Hanson
They talked themselves into C.J. Hanson at the 232nd overall pick, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick251
Rnd7
Daequan Hardy
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Daequan Hardy in pick 251, plain and simple. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
