Minnesota Vikings

No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Vikings.

The Jordan Travis pick is the one that will follow the Vikings into the fall. They took him 95 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wiley. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.15 · Pick 15 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 17
In the 15th pick they get a cornerstone up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Jordan Travis · QB · rank 137
They reached into another round for Jordan Travis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 103
They reached a country mile for Marshawn Kneeland at pick 82, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 158
Keith Randolph Jr. at No. 109 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.18 · Pick 118 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 150
This one needs a full-page explanation: Drake Nugent in the 118th overall pick, miles early. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.30 · Pick 130 · Javion Cohen · OG · rank 151
Javion Cohen in Round 4, Pick 30 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.9 · Pick 145 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 160
Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 145 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R5.30 · Pick 166 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 183
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at pick 166 that the board grades a round light. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
R6.4 · Pick 179 · AJ Barner · TE · rank 203
A real head-scratcher, AJ Barner in the 179th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.7 · Pick 182 · Renardo Green · S · rank 153
They robbed the room for Renardo Green here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Sheridan Jones · CB · rank 235
A wild overpay on Sheridan Jones in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.2 · Pick 222 · Jha'Quan Jackson · WR · rank 227
No drama and no debate, Jha'Quan Jackson went about where he belonged in Round 7, Pick 2. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.7 · Pick 227 · Zakhari Franklin · WR · rank 248
Zakhari Franklin at the 227th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.11 · Pick 231 · Michael Wiley · RB · rank 198
They will replay Michael Wiley at No. 231 for years; that is how good the value is. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.12 · Pick 232 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 232
A straight-up fair deal on Jase McClellan at Round 7, Pick 12, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
