The real work happened on the phones. The Bears fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.

They will need Jackson to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman and quarterback. They banked enough surplus on Dixon to cover a lot of smaller sins.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Xavier Legette and all.
