Somebody in pick No. 229 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Raiders sat still while Anthony Gould, the No. 142 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
Whatever Michael Penix Jr. becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They are betting Okie-Anoma proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 18 they get a cornerstone up front, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
Taking Michael Penix Jr. in the 31st overall pick is close to grand larceny; a quarterback that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
DJ James in the Round 2 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Kamren Kinchens come to them and pounced at the 75th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
DeWayne Carter at No. 112 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Sataoa Laumea slipping to Round 5, Pick 12 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Dylan Laube at pick No. 169 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. The roster fit checks out.
The board fumbled Steele Chambers all the way to pick 219, and they scooped it up. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Cody Schrader at slot 223 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They robbed the room for Anthony Gould here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma in No. 255 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
