Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB
Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Simpson: B+.

Whoever sat across the table from the Commanders should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.

Simpson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The cost of the Spann-Ford reach is exactly the players who went right after him. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Joe Alt
In the 4th overall pick they get a building block for the line. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick27 Rnd1 Jordan Morgan
In No. 27 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at Round 2, Pick 2 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick36 Rnd2 Chop Robinson
They took Chop Robinson at par in the 36th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
A reach on Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick67 Rnd3 Cooper Beebe
A conviction pick on Cooper Beebe at pick 67 that the board grades a round light. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick90 Rnd3 Gabriel Murphy
Nothing to complain about; Gabriel Murphy went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick101 Rnd4 Khyree Jackson
No edge and no loss on Khyree Jackson in No. 101; it is a wash and a sensible one. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick103 Rnd4 Audric Estime
They did well to land Audric Estime in Round 4, Pick 3, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104 Rnd4 Marist Liufau
Marist Liufau at pick No. 104 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick138 Rnd5 Ben Sinnott
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ben Sinnott. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181 Rnd6 Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in slot 181 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick188 Rnd6 Andrew Raym
Andrew Raym at the Round 6 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick220 Rnd6 Brevyn Spann-Ford
A wild overpay on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 220th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
