Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Raiders took Zion Logue at the 229th overall pick, roughly 61 spots before his name belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

They banked enough surplus on McCaffrey to cover a lot of smaller sins. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

They went 6 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a lockdown presence outside at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · J.J. McCarthy · QB · rank 46
J.J. McCarthy in pick No. 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 57
Kingsley Suamataia at slot 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 91
They will replay Dominick Puni at the 111th pick for years; that is how good the value is. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R4.28 · Pick 128 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 133
Chau Smith-Wade at No. 128 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.11 · Pick 147 · Dylan Laube · RB · rank 151
They paid sticker price for Dylan Laube in the 147th overall pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.32 · Pick 207 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 165
Circle this one: Luke McCaffrey at the 207th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 197
They barely believed it either: Curtis Jacobs still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Zion Logue · DL · rank 290
Value said wait; Zion Logue in the 229th overall pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
