Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Josiah Ezirim at the 179th pick is 63 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
J.J. McCarthy gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Getting Dial where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A whole weekend of picks and safety is somehow still a want.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A reach on J.J. McCarthy in No. 32; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Tyler Davis at the Round 4 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Javion Cohen, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Cedric Gray at the 145th overall pick is the proof. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A big swing on Josiah Ezirim at slot 179, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Marcellas Dial in slot 227, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
