Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Raiders spent Round 7, Pick 3 on Drake Nugent, a name most had 60 spots down the list.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Jones. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a disruptor off the edge. The biggest hole, addressed.
Junior Colson in pick 44 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Christian Mahogany at the 77th overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Braelon Allen at par in slot 112, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Elijah Jones higher than the Round 5 slot, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reach on Joe Milton III in No. 208; the board had better options right there. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Drake Nugent at the 223rd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trey Taylor at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It adds depth where they could use a little.
