FutureB-
The Cowboys kept it disciplined and banked a B-. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Cowboys reached some 41 spots for Deontae Lawson, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Caldwell pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick Analysis
Pick55
Rnd2
Trevor Etienne
They reached a country mile for Trevor Etienne at pick No. 55, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick62
Rnd2
Cameron Ward
They paid sticker price for Cameron Ward in the 62nd overall pick, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Rod Moore
Rod Moore in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick87
Rnd3
Quincy Riley
They took Quincy Riley at par in pick 87, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick97
Rnd4
Smael Mondon Jr.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 97 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Jamaree Caldwell
Jamaree Caldwell slipping to Round 4, Pick 30 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick151
Rnd5
Akheem Mesidor
They paid a round early for Akheem Mesidor in Round 5, Pick 23, more than the board wanted. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick158
Rnd5
Sean Martin
A reach on Sean Martin in No. 158; the board had better options right there. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick161
Rnd6
Tristan Leigh
Value said wait; Tristan Leigh in slot 161 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick190
Rnd6
Eli Cox
Eli Cox at pick 190 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick203
Rnd7
Deontae Lawson
They left a pile of value on the table to take Deontae Lawson this early at pick No. 203. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick222
Rnd7
Tommi Hill
A straight-up fair deal on Tommi Hill at the 222nd pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
