FutureB+
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B. If confidence were a draft strategy, the 49ers would have aced it. Fentrell Cypress II at the 252nd overall pick is 40 spots clear of where he belonged. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Fisher falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Emeka Egbuka
A reasonable price with a little left over, Emeka Egbuka in pick 31. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick94
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
They did well to land Christian Haynes in No. 94, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
Zach Frazier at pick No. 98 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick131
Rnd4
Blake Fisher
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Blake Fisher for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick151
Rnd5
Jonah Monheim
Jonah Monheim in the 151st overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick177
Rnd6
Connor Colby
Value with a capital V on Connor Colby in slot 177, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick209
Rnd6
Willie Roberts
By-the-book stuff, Willie Roberts at the 209th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick213
Rnd6
Jaylon Carlies
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylon Carlies a notch or two before his time. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick215
Rnd6
Duce Chestnut
Duce Chestnut in No. 215 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick252
Rnd7
Fentrell Cypress II
A wild overpay on Fentrell Cypress II in Round 7, Pick 32, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
