FutureB-
Good, not great, for the 49ers: B. It is a puzzling start. The 49ers had wide receiver, running back and other spots to solve and reached instead for Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE, at the 98th overall pick.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Sanders value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. The Guyton reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Tyler Guyton
In No. 31 they get a long-term starter on the line, though they paid up to get him. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick69
Rnd3
Ja'Tavion Sanders
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 69. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick94
Rnd3
Mike Sainristil
Mike Sainristil slipping to pick No. 94 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick98
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They bypassed pressing needs at wide receiver, running back and other spots to take Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE that was not the priority.
Pick131
Rnd4
Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg at Round 4, Pick 31 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The roster fit checks out.
