Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The 49ers won the night they stopped Zinter from sliding. Grade: B-.

Somebody in Round 4, Pick 23 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The 49ers sat still while Zak Zinter, the No. 104 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.

Every board in the league had Lovett lower, and that gap is the story. Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick31 Rnd1 Terrion Arnold
In the Round 1 slot they get an island corner. Need was not the driver here.
Pick63 Rnd2 Patrick Paul
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at pick 63, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Javon Baker
Javon Baker in the 94th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Zak Zinter
Circle this one: Zak Zinter at slot 123 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick130 Rnd4 Mohamed Kamara
Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 30 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick132 Rnd4 Fabien Lovett
A premium they did not need to pay, Fabien Lovett a notch or two before his time. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick175 Rnd5 Sione Vaki
Nothing to complain about; Sione Vaki went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick211 Rnd6 Curtis Jacobs
Curtis Jacobs slid further than he should have, and the 211th pick is lovely value for the linebacker. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick215 Rnd6 Frank Gore Jr.
They went early on Frank Gore Jr. in No. 215, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick232 Rnd7 Austin Reed
No edge and no loss on Austin Reed in slot 232; it is a wash and a sensible one. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick251 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
They let Brevyn Spann-Ford come to them and pounced at the 251st overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
