You can hear the double-takes from here. The Bears took Carson Steele at the 256th overall pick, roughly 57 spots before his name belonged. There is no dressing it up: a F.

They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Washington falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
