The Taulia Tagovailoa selection is the head-turner. The Raiders reached 140 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
The Hopper pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The Michael Carter II deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 13 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Blake Corum in pick 72 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Calen Bullock. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nice patience on Brenden Rice, who had no business lasting to Round 4, Pick 11. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Zak Zinter at the 112th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Taulia Tagovailoa at the 148th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
Ty'Ron Hopper at the Round 6 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eyabi Okie-Anoma. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Ryan Flournoy still on the board at pick No. 229. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
