Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylin Simpson got past him. The Eagles do not have to explain a thing at the Round 5 slot.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get a potential shutdown corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in slot 50; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Payton Wilson at par in the 53rd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
No drama and no debate, Blake Fisher went about where he belonged in pick 120. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 25 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jaylin Simpson at No. 171 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
