You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Eagles did exactly that with Rylie Mills in the Round 7 slot. Call it a C- and check back in two years.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. That safety hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. With safety and quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on linebacker is the choice that costs them.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
Nate Wiggins at slot 36 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A tidy bit of business in the 39th pick, where Johnny Wilson graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tyler Guyton at pick No. 53 is a conviction pick that outran the value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jack Sawyer at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They reached a country mile for Audric Estime at Round 3, Pick 4, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into Cedric Gray at pick 72, and the board did not agree. A minor itch, scratched.
A wild overpay on Max Melton in pick No. 97, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 100th overall pick on Payton Wilson with safety and quarterback unsolved.
By-the-book stuff, Devontez Walker at No. 101 squarely in line with his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reach on Blake Fisher in the 102nd pick; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Tate Ratledge in slot 104, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board had cheaper options than Nehemiah Pritchett at pick 132, and it noticed. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Ben Sinnott at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They liked Braden Fiske enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 23. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Miles Frazier at pick No. 178 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
Fentrell Cypress II in the 185th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Zion Tupuola-Fetui in the 200th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Rylie Mills at pick 223 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
