The Eagles did not so much draft Trevor Etienne as overpay for him, 106 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Leonard to cover a lot of smaller sins. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th overall pick they get a disruptor off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reach for Donovan Jackson in No. 55; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Nick Emmanwori at the 65th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It fills a real need, too.
The board had Tyleik Williams higher than pick 86, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A big swing on Elic Ayomanor at slot 103, well ahead of any board in the building. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Value with a capital V on Riley Leonard in Round 4, Pick 12, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Bryson Nesbit at Round 5, Pick 18, and it noticed. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jeffrey Bassa in No. 161 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They talked themselves into J.C. Davis at pick No. 165, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trevor Etienne in the Round 6 slot, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Anthony Belton in slot 205 is miles ahead of his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
