The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Eagles reached some 55 spots for Isaac Guerendo, and value like that does not grow back. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. That Oladapo pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in pick No. 50 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chris Braswell. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Malik Washington well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in Round 5, Pick 24 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 170th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Roger Rosengarten at the 171st pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Kitan Oladapo is a better player than the 178th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Curtis Jacobs went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Isaac Guerendo. It fills a real need, too.
