The Eagles spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Jaheim Bell, the No. 140 name on the board, in the 163rd overall pick. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. If Gentry pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a ballhawk on the outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
By-the-book stuff, Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick 50 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edgerrin Cooper. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
The board had Roman Wilson higher than the 97th overall pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 137 with a little surplus value in James Williams. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Jaheim Bell in Round 5, Pick 27 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
Good price on Kitan Oladapo in the 172nd pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A need, and now a little less of one.
Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They paid a round early for Eric Gentry in slot 243, more than the board wanted. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
