The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
They will need Magee to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Landing Allen that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 6 of 9 of the wish list covered.
Not a disaster, not a triumph, just a middling class.
Pick-by-Pick
Kool-Aid McKinstry at No. 18 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Payton Wilson at the 54th pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
They paid sticker price for Tykee Smith in Round 3, Pick 34, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Beaux Limmer in pick No. 137 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board had Braelon Allen higher than the Round 5 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. The roster fit checks out.
Jordan Jefferson at pick 172 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Julian Pearl at par in slot 178, which is nothing to complain about. It does not line up with the team's obvious holes.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jordan Magee this early at the 182nd overall pick. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
They paid up for Kedon Slovis at the 225th pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
By-the-book stuff, Matthew Jones at No. 243 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
