There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Eagles started one anyway for Trevor Etienne, 133 picks ahead of schedule. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That Winston Jr. pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. Leaving cornerback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 22 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
In the 28th pick they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Xavier Watts at slot 55 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Deontae Lawson is a better player than No. 63 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 84 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Tyler Warren in Round 3, Pick 22 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nick Emmanwori at the 88th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Elic Ayomanor at Round 3, Pick 26 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Value with a capital V on Riley Leonard in No. 113, a genuine coup. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 4 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Antwane Wells Jr. in pick 156 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, J.C. Davis well ahead of where he belonged. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Micah Morris. It fills a real need, too.
Trevor Etienne at slot 164 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Nazir Stackhouse at the Round 5 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Anthony Belton in the 196th pick, miles early. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
