There is a lot to like until you notice edge rusher is still a hole. The Raiders never got to the one that mattered most.
The Cooper pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. The Laumea reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a press-man option on the boundary at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Byron Murphy II. The roster fit checks out.
Edgerrin Cooper at the 77th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Sataoa Laumea at Round 4, Pick 12 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Braelon Allen at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
No edge and no loss on Christian Jones in slot 190; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Watson at pick 234 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
