Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
A
ValueB+
NeedB
TradesA+
FutureA+
The steal of the weekend belongs to the Bears and Trice: A. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Bralen Trice got past him. The Bears do not have to explain a thing at Round 3, Pick 13.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will answer for taking TE-EDGE early while interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots went begging. Reaching for Tagovailoa left real value on the table behind him.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, with Joe Alt leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick13
Rnd1
Joe Alt
A quiet steal in the 13th overall pick: Joe Alt for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick16
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
A clean, defensible pick in the 16th pick with a little surplus value in Rome Odunze. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick18
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In No. 18 they get juice off the edge. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick44
Rnd2
Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 44 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Javon Bullard is a better player than Round 3, Pick 11 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick77
Rnd3
Bralen Trice
Circle this one: Bralen Trice at pick No. 77 is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick111
Rnd4
Cade Stover
A want over a need in pick 111: Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE while interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots keeps waiting.
Pick123
Rnd4
Audric Estime
You do not let a running back like Audric Estime reach the Round 4 slot and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick143
Rnd5
Darius Robinson
Somehow Darius Robinson was still sitting there in the 143rd overall pick, and they pounced on premier edge rusher value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick218
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
Taulia Tagovailoa in the 218th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
