zinn DRAFTING FOR THE49ers
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the 49ers spent Round 6, Pick 40 on Kurtis Rourke, a name most had 163 spots down the list. Good, not great, and the B- says as much.
On value alone, Dixon makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Good work on the whole, with wide receiver the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Graham Barton
In slot 31 they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick63
Rnd2
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in pick No. 63 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick94
Rnd3
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick98
Rnd3
Mohamed Kamara
A wild overpay on Mohamed Kamara in No. 98, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick125
Rnd4
Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris in the 125th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132
Rnd4
Cole Bishop
Cole Bishop in Round 4, Pick 32 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick176
Rnd6
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
They reached into another round for Zion Tupuola-Fetui, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick209
Rnd6
Johnny Dixon
Johnny Dixon at pick 209 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick214
Rnd6
Frank Gore Jr.
They jumped the gun on Frank Gore Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick215
Rnd6
Kurtis Rourke
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kurtis Rourke well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick249
Rnd7
Ethan Driskell
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ethan Driskell. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
