Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesB FutureB+
The Commanders answered their biggest question with Maye. Grade: B.

The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.

The Jennings steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick Analysis
Pick2 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In the 2nd overall pick they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
Pick42 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Edgerrin Cooper at pick No. 42. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick50 Rnd2 Chris Braswell
A tidy little value on Chris Braswell in pick 50, a step better than break-even. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick67 Rnd3 Tyler Guyton
Nothing to complain about; Tyler Guyton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick100 Rnd3 Luke Lachey
They took Luke Lachey at par in slot 100, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick102 Rnd4 MarShawn Lloyd
MarShawn Lloyd in the 102nd pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick139 Rnd5 Malik Mustapha
Malik Mustapha at No. 139 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick180 Rnd6 Zy Alexander
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Zy Alexander in Round 6, Pick 5. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick196 Rnd6 Andrew Raym
Nice patience on Andrew Raym, who had no business lasting to slot 196. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick223 Rnd7 Ali Jennings
Steal is underselling it; Ali Jennings at No. 223 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
