The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Vikings spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Quarterback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a franchise quarterback at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In slot 23 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Value with a capital V on MarShawn Lloyd in the 108th overall pick, a genuine coup. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow DJ James was still sitting there in the 129th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They barely believed it either: Brennan Jackson still on the board at the Round 5 slot. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They let Trevor Keegan come to them and pounced at No. 167. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jordan Magee slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 2 is lovely value for the linebacker. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Tylan Grable slipping to pick 232 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nice patience on Trey Taylor, who had no business lasting to pick No. 238. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
