Nobody else had Charles Turner III anywhere near the Round 7 slot. The Vikings did, by 82 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Wilson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
They went 7 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st pick they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at slot 42 is the proof. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A quiet steal in pick 63: Patrick Paul for less than the market said. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Roman Wilson all the way to the 108th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on James Williams at No. 130, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Keith Randolph Jr. at Round 5, Pick 12 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braelon Allen in the 160th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate quarterback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Joe Milton III. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Jordan Jefferson in Round 6, Pick 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 218 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It adds depth where they could use a little.
A wild overpay on Myles Cole in pick 221, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Charles Turner III well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
