Draft Grade — Bears
Overall B+
ValueB- NeedB TradesA+ FutureB+
The Bears worked the phones like thieves and earned a B+.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 32 spots for Maason Smith, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. It is not that Smith is a bad player; it is that the Bears had louder needs to answer first.

For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick4 Rnd1 Malik Nabers
Malik Nabers in slot 4 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick15 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick No. 15 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick35 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jordan Morgan. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick40 Rnd2 Ja'Tavion Sanders
Fair-plus on Ja'Tavion Sanders, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick46 Rnd2 J.J. McCarthy
They paid sticker price for J.J. McCarthy in Round 2, Pick 14, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Maason Smith
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman and linebacker still to address, they spent No. 75 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick102 Rnd4 Trey Benson
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Trey Benson. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick122 Rnd4 Beaux Limmer
By-the-book stuff, Beaux Limmer at the 122nd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick180 Rnd6 Kamal Hadden
They read the board right and Kamal Hadden was the payoff at Round 6, Pick 5. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
