Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D+

FutureD
The Bears answered their biggest question with Williams. Grade: D+. The Bears looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Beaux Limmer at Round 3, Pick 15 regardless, 47 picks early.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here. They punted on running back, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Getting Arnold where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and running back is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick No. 2 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Joe Alt
In slot 9 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick18
Rnd1
Chop Robinson
In the Round 1 slot they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Terrion Arnold
Circle this one: Terrion Arnold at the 36th pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick67
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brenden Rice well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They reached a country mile for Maason Smith at No. 75, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick79
Rnd3
Beaux Limmer
Beaux Limmer at No. 79 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
