Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Bears shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.

The Williams pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The McMillan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In the 1st overall pick they get the face of the franchise at fair value.
Pick9 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
No edge and no loss on Laiatu Latu in the Round 1 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick34 Rnd2 Troy Franklin
They paid sticker price for Troy Franklin in the 34th pick, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Fair-plus on Jackson Powers-Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick75 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
A tidy bit of business in No. 75, where Javon Bullard graded well above the range. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick110 Rnd4 Jalen McMillan
Jalen McMillan in pick 110 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146 Rnd5 Javion Cohen
Javion Cohen at pick No. 146 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick182 Rnd6 Miyan Williams
A reach on Miyan Williams in Round 6, Pick 7; the board had better options right there. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick186 Rnd6 Austin Stogner
Austin Stogner at pick 186 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick232 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Steele Chambers for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
