Draft Grade — Bears
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB-
Williams is the Bears' new face under center. Grade: D-.

The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Bears reached some 43 spots for Moose Muhammad III, and value like that does not grow back. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D- is the result.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. They have staked the next five years on Caleb Williams, which is the only story that really matters here.

The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Getting Chambers where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and edge rusher is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Pick9 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In the 9th pick they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick21 Rnd1 Jer'Zhan Newton
In the Round 1 slot they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick75 Rnd3 Rod Moore
Rod Moore in Round 3, Pick 11 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick110 Rnd4 Moose Muhammad III
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Moose Muhammad III well ahead of where he belonged. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick146 Rnd5 Jacob Cowing
Value said wait; Jacob Cowing in pick No. 146 says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick232 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
Steele Chambers at pick 232 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
