The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Devontez Walker, pick 226, roughly 71 picks past where he belonged. The bottom line is a respectable B.
They punted on safety, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Jared Verse higher than pick No. 34, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A slide stopped in No. 52, with Nate Wiggins worth more than the price. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They paid sticker price for McKinnley Jackson in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Payton Wilson in pick 120, a genuine coup. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Connor Colby at Round 4, Pick 33 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Joe Milton III at the 157th overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, MarShawn Lloyd at slot 161. A need, and now a little less of one.
A tidy bit of business in the 169th pick, where Jack Nelson graded well above the range. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jamari Thrash in the 179th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Steal is underselling it; Devontez Walker at slot 226 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Landon Jackson in pick 241. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
