The rest of the league had time to spare on Joe Milton III; the Raiders did not wait, grabbing him 45 spots ahead at pick 155.
Wilson at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 13th pick they get protection for the quarterback. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, T.J. Tampa went about where he belonged in pick No. 44. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Payton Wilson at slot 77 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Trevor Keegan in the Round 4 slot, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Joe Milton III in the 155th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Trey Knox at No. 208 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into Kimani Vidal at slot 213, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Sheridan Jones at pick No. 223 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached into another round for Patrick McMorris, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A straight-up fair deal on Tylan Grable at Round 7, Pick 9, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
